A contronym is a word that has two opposite meanings. Can you think of any?

Weather - it can mean either to withstand or to erode.
Buckle - it can mean to fasten or to fall apart.
Rocky - it can mean solid & unshakeable or tending to sway (e.g., a rocky shelf)

Any others?

Chapters 13 to 15

Chapter 13

So the scouts kept walking until Duch said, “There’s something I forgot to tell you, scouts. This place is full of traps, good thing nobody has fallen into a trap. We’re supposed to avoid the tra-AHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh. ”Duch fell into a trap. Lucas then said, “I guess I’ll stay in this spot.” “No you don’t,” scolded Kristen. So Lucas followed behind, then suddenly, Lucas was hung by the foot five feet high from the ground by a rope.

“Somebody help me! I’m gonna get eaten up by a monster!” he sobbed. Then Paul came 30 minutes later and did something with the rope then karate chopped it in half, and Lucas fell to the ground. So Lucas had to wait upside down a few more times and climb up deep holes a few more time. Finally the scouts and Duch got past all the traps by helping each other.

Chapter 14

“Now we’re going into a cave, a big cave, boulders will roll down the cave’s side. The whole cave is like a hollow cylinder, the two flat circle parts of the cylinder are on the sides. Since the cave is very wide, you’ll have a lot of time to cross a boulder’s pathway. When one boulder is at the top of the side, the rest will be. If you look from a bird’s eye view when the boulders are all up on the sides, it will look like zigzags,” explained Duch.

“Why can’t we just go around the cave?” Lucas asked.
“Would you rather go through a forest or this cave?”
“Uhhh, cave,” replied Lucas.

So the scouts headed in the cave. Lucas was doing fine until the second last boulder. He tripped over a rock and fell right in a pathway of a boulder .He was getting up when the boulder was three metres away from him. He got past, but when he saw his compass in the pathway of the boulder, he quickly got it, almost getting his hand rammed. Then he got past the last boulder and out of the cave.

Chapter 15

The scouts kept walking until they reach a mansion-sized hole with spikes in the hole.
“Just in case you ask why not go around the hole, Lucas, it’s because the ground could break and you will fall and die,” Duch said to Lucas.

So Duch explained, “Here are vines to swing across. Don’t look down and don’t let go until I tell you to, I’ll be on the other side.” So Duch swung across to the other side perfectly in nine seconds. Then Lucas called second to cross the hole. So Lucas held on to a vine tight, closed his eyes and jumped. He was thinking, “This is gonna take forever and I’ll let go, then …,” he was interrupted by Duch shouting, “Get ready to let go!"

But Lucas was scared, he let go, and he started falling, “AhhhhhhUMPH!” Lucas fell on the edge of the hole, half out of the hole and half in the hole. He yelled, “Help! Heeeeelp!” So Duch grabbed Lucas’s hand and pulled but Lucas was so scared he let go of Duch’s hand and Lucas slipped and hung on to the edge of the hole. Then he fainted. Duch held on to Lucas’s hand just in time and pulled him out of the hole. Then the rest of the scouts swung across the hole. Some perfectly, some not. Lucas learned, “Have no fear, help is always here!”

Geneva Park

On Thursday, June 29, at night, Dad, Dylan, and I went to Geneva Park with the other W.P.G.T.A (Widower Parents of Greater Toronto Area) people. The group goes to Geneva Park every year - always on the week after the last day of school.

Geneva Park has a cafeteria, a beach, lots of rooms to sleep in, a gym, a tennis court, a bicycle trail and a playground. The cafeteria is like buffet and the food is so good. There were so many families, our group used up nine tables, each with about 10 seats. The last breakfast was especially good because there were little potatoes, bacons, mini sausages, chocolate milk, cereal and toast with honey. But my dad slept in – too bad!

I brought my remote control car, hangman book, my three magnetic rings, my book that I’m writing and my ghost stories book (they are true stories).

I found a little dead cat fish near the water, and then I put it in the bon fire where we had our marshmallows! I went to the beach two times. I wish I could spend more time on the beach next year!

Dylan, Dad and I left Geneva Park after lunch on the 2nd of July. This year was the best so far because I’m now old enough to do more stuff. I especially like riding my bike down the steep hill and playing my remote car with Josh.

Chapters 10 to 12

Chapter 10

‘Sssproosh!’ went the boat as it got tossed into water. “One pure person,” said Duch. So Kristen said to Lucas, “ You gotta learn to go by yourself. Just try.” It wasn’t a boat, it was actually three logs tied together. So one-by-one, the scouts floated across. Lucas went last and he did what the other scouts did. He did perfectly. He was proud, except he wobbled a bit when he was in the middle of the river.

Chapter 11

‘Zzzzwing’ came the noise coming closer and closer. “I’ll go check out what that noise is,” Mia told the group. So she did, “Run for your lives!!!” Mia yelled. “There is a swarm of gnats!” as she ran back to the scouts. The scouts started to scurry away. Lucas wanted to prove that he wasn’t scared, so he quickly took out his towel out of his bag and ran toward the gnats whipping furiously. “Come back here!” Duch shouted. But Lucas kept whipping. He ran to a huge tree and whacked the towel with the gnats against the tree. Then Lucas felt a sting on his neck, he was angry. He whacked the towel even harder against the tree. He did this a several times. He ran to a big rock and hit the towel even harder. Finally Lucas got tired and thought the gnats were dead. He wanted to wipe his towel on the tree but a few gnats were still alive and stung Lucas and flew away. His towel was all ragged up. When Lucas turned around, all the scouts had their mouths open for they knew that Lucas was a person who was afraid of everything.

Chapter 12

“Now we have to dig up a map to see where we’ll go next, in this open area,” Duch explained.
“I’ll climb up that tree an d find clues, if there is,” Kristen said. So she did and said, “Hey! I see something! I see these Xs and Os. There is an O inside of another O and then another O inside that O. Now there are four Xs inside the smallest O. The four Xs are attached leaving a space that has a small X.” When Kristen came down from the tree, she saw Lucas help digging. “I got it, I got it!” shouted Joseph in excitement. So off they went back to their journey.

A Bird In My House

Today when I went to my soccer practice, while my dad was closing the door, a black and white bird flew into the house (I was in the car so I didn't see this happening).

When I returned home, I was putting away my jersey in my dad's room when I saw a brown flash in the corner of my eye. I knew it was the bird so I told my dad and Dylan. Dylan and I went into my dad's washroom and saw bird poo and we laughed very hard! And then my dad took out the screen from the window but the bird flew around the room, so Dylan and I had to duck down on the floor and my dad used the screen to force the bird out of the window.

This reminded me when I was young we had a bat in our basement!

Chapters 7 to 9

Chapter 7

‘Beeeeeeep!’ went the metal detector. “Hey, I don’ have any weapon!” complained Lucas, “I only have a metal ring to keep me not scared”
“Be quiet! You don’t want everybody looking at us, do you?” Kristen whispered.
“Go on, move the line!” said the airport security.
“There’s the trip guide,” Kristen said.
“Huh? Where? I can’t see anybody trip a guy,” Lucas said stupidly.
“I said, trip guides. Not trip a g-”Kristen started.
“Why, you two must be the two Clamberg siblings. I’m Duch Rockie. You could call me Duck, Rock, Rocker or just Duch,” said Duch, the trip guide.
“ It’s actually Camberg,” Kristen corrected as they all shock hands.

Chapter 8

The rest of the people that signed-up for this trip were already in the van that would drive them to the place they needed to go. So off they went, to the jungle full of worms. The scouts introduced each other. Their names were Betty, Joseph, Greg, Mia, Jeffrey, Robert, Paul and Logan. But these people weren’t scared like Lucas, they just want to try the challenge. Betty and Greg are fast runners. Joseph is good at gymnastics. Mia is shy, but very brave. Jeffrey and Paul are street fighters. Robert and Logan are normal.

Chapter 9

“Just follow me. This challenge will take eight days,” Duch explained. “Just in case you get lost,” Duch handed out a compass to each scout, “We’re heading east.” They just arrived to the jungle when Duch finished talking. They got off the van and walked into the jungle. There was a sudden sound in the bushes and a wolf leapt out of the bushes claws bared, and fangs sharp like carved daggers. Mia told Jeffrey and Paul to fight the wolf. They did but the wolf was too fast to get hit. So the wolf chased the scouts. But Lucas was too scared to run, So Kristen told him to run or he’ll die. The wolf suddenly stopped and fell down. Mia slowly walked to the wolf and said,“ This isn’t a wolf, it’s a robot wolf!”

Fruit Owl and Mr. Fruit

Chapters 4 to 6

Chapter 4

So they went to Kristen’s, friend’s, sister’s restaurant for breakfast. Lucas was so anxious, he stuffed the food in his mouth quickly. “Urrmmmm. Ris is grood!” he sad talking with his mouth full. “Don’t speak while you’re eating!” Kristen commanded!
“Okay,” he groaned.

Chapter 5

“Please don’t make me go on the airplane!” Lucas shouted with worry, “I’ll give you a reason, the plane might crash!”
“Oh, shut up! It’s one in millions of times it’s goin’ ta crash!”
“Fine! Then you have to buy me seven barf bags!”
On the plane ride, Kristen used up two thirds of her money for barf bags.
“Are we there yet?” Lucas asked sleepily.
“Ha, ha, very funny. Still two and a bit more hours,” Kristen replied looking at her watch.
“Oh,” Lucas said softly, sounding even sleepier.

Chapter 6

“Please prepare for your trip to Africa!” announced the stewardess. “We’ll be there in half an hour!”
“Half an hour Lucas, ya got half an hour to wake up,” Kristen said not even knowing that Lucas was mostly sleeping. Kristen got their backpack and tossed it to Lucas without even looking. Then she began to sit down and she heard a THUMP beside her. She saw a shoe sticking up from beside where Lucas was sitting. Kristen had tossed the backpack to Lucas and the backpack knocked Lucas over. “I’m O.K. people,” Lucas said with crossed-eyes.

Take Me AWAY !! - Chapters 1 to 3

Chapter 1

Lucas was reading his Geronimo Stilton book, Four Mice Deep in the Jungle when the doorbell rang. It was his sister, Kristen, jumping up and down. “I won two tickets for Multi-Difficult Jungle Challenge!” “I already signed you up for it!”
“Oh gosh! I’m scared of nearly everything! I’m even scared of the T.V. and scared of grass!” He was 28 years old and he was still afraid of nearly everything.
“It’s on the 21st of June, at 5:30 pm, ya got five days.”
“WHAT! FIVE DAYS! You mean I got five days to live! Ahhhh! I scared myself.”
“Just calm down! Ya not gonna die. I’m doing this so you wouldn’t be so scared.”
“I’m not scared! I’m just nervous.” “So you’re nervous of almost everything?”
“Yep.”
“Hey Lucas.”
“Yeah?”
“Boo!”
“Ahhhhhhh!”
“See what I mean? You were scared.”

Chapter 2

It was June 20th,Kristen woke Lucas up with a little pat on the head. “Oh, It’s you. I had a nightmare,” Lucas said trembling when he woke up. “I dreamt that I went to Multi-Difficult Jungle Challenge, and I died in it!”
“It’s time to pack for tomorrow’s trip,” Kristen said ignoring Lucas. So they packed food, water, clothes and two towels in their big bag.
“Why do you always force me to do stuff I’m afraid of?” asked Lucas.
“Well, you’re scared of nearly everything, so what else can I do for you?”

Chapter 3

It was finally the day Lucas thought he was going to die. Lucas and Kristen were running around the house. It was 9:40, their usual wake up time. Lucas was running away from Kristen. Kristen was chasing Lucas and finding their bag for the one-week adventure. By now, it was 10:30,fifty minutes of running and Kristen caught Lucas and she found the bag.
“Here’s our plan: First, we go eat breakfast. Then we'll go to the airport." said Kristen.
